Total Knee Replacement
Total knee replacement surgery is used to treat severe pain, stiffness, and joint deterioration caused by arthritis or injury. During the procedure, the worn surfaces of the knee are replaced with smooth, artificial components designed to restore natural movement and comfort.
Recovery:
Most patients stay 1 or 2 nights in the hospital after surgery. They are able to walk with support within a day or two. Light activity typically resumes after 6–8 weeks, with full recovery expected in 3–6 months.
Partial Knee Replacement
Recovery:
The majority of patients stay in hospital for less than 24 hours after surgery. They return to light daily activities within 4–6 weeks.
Knee Revision Surgery
Recovery:
Recovery is generally longer than a first-time knee replacement and depends on the extent of the procedure required – expect light activity after 8–12 weeks and continued improvement over several months.
Knee Arthroscopy
Recovery:
Joint Injections
Joint injections provide effective relief from arthritis-related pain and inflammation. Mr Pickering offers a range of options, including steroid, hyaluronic acid (Synvisc), and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injections, tailored to each patient’s condition and level of discomfort.
Recovery:
Hip Replacement
Recovery:
Patients typically go home the following day after surgery, walking with crutches, and return to normal activities within 6–12 weeks.
Robot-Assisted Hip & Knee Surgery
Robot-assisted technology enhances precision in both hip and knee replacement surgeries. Using 3D imaging and computer-guided planning, it ensures optimal implant positioning, balance, and alignment — resulting in less pain, faster recovery, and ‘likely’ improved long-term outcomes.
Recovery:
Similar to traditional joint replacement, but often quicker, with earlier return to movement and reduced discomfort.
